Russia ranks the United States as its greatest threat, under a new foreign policy doctrine endorsed by President Vladimir Putin.
According to this document, Moscow must now build its relations within the framework of a “existential confrontation” with Western countries, as explained by the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
“The United States of America is directly named as the main initiator and conductor of anti-Russian sentiment and, in general, the policy of the West aimed at weakening Russia in every possible way is characterized as a hybrid war of a new type. It is recognized the existential nature of the threats to the security and development of our country, driven by the actions of non-friendly States”Lavrov has told.
China and India are now officially designated as the main partners of Russia in its political turn to the East.
The new political doctrine is formalized after the visit of Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Moscow, during which both Putin and Xi stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation.
