A serial sperm donor who fathered at least 550 children in the Netherlands is being sued for increasing the risk of accidental incest by hiding the extent of his donations.
“If I had known that he had already fathered more than 100 children, I would never have chosen him, protested one of the Dutch mothers, in the civil file reported by The Telegraph. If I think about the consequences it will have on my child, it makes me sick.”
Dutchman Jonathan Jacob Meijer, 41, is being sued by the Dutch Donor Foundation for lying about his donation numbers.
To avoid the risks of accidental incest, consanguinity or psychological disorders, the policies of the sperm clinics are strict and only allow a maximum of 25 children or donations intended for 12 women.
The Foundation wants to demand the removal of the man’s samples from the sperm banks, as well as the order to immediately stop its donations.
According to the British media, the forties would be on a blacklist of donors, but would have continued his donations abroad, in particular in Denmark and Ukraine. The red flag would have been raised in 2017, when it had already made it possible to give birth to 102 children through 10 clinics in the Netherlands.
He would also approach parents looking for home insemination on the web and currently resides in Kenya where he uses the alias Ruud on the web.
“We are taking action against this man because the government is not doing anything,” said Foundation President Ties van der Meer.
