FC Groningen attacker Ricardo Pepi was again worth gold for the United States on Monday evening (local time) in Orlando. The substitute was responsible for the only goal in the Nations League match with El Salvador in Orlando: 1-0.
Pepi was allowed to make an appearance at the Exploria Stadium fifteen minutes after the break and less than two minutes later it was hit. The twenty-year-old talent received the ball after a through ball from Weston McKennie and finished coolly.
His goal was enough for the US to secure victory. Taylor Booth was also allowed to participate. The FC Utrecht midfielder entered the field twenty minutes before the end and played his second international match.
It was already the second time this international period that Pepi scored. The fourteen-time international shared with two goals on Saturday in the monster victory over Grenada (1-7). He now has six goals for the US.
At FC Groningen, Pepi is also doing well this season with nine Eredivisie goals, although the ‘Pride of the North’ is doing a lot less. Groningen is penultimate and must fear direct relegation to the Kitchen Champion Division.
The US had enough victory over El Salvador to qualify for the final round of the CONCACAF Nations League. Mexico is also already certain of the final tournament, which will be held in June at the Allegiant Stadium.
