Macri with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and Patricia Bullrich at the Libertad Foundation
After renouncing not to be a candidate in the next elections, Mauricio Macri appeared together with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and Patricia Bullrich at the annual dinner of the Libertad Foundation. The three PRO leaders shared a table during a meal that brought together personalities and leaders from the liberal spectrum of Argentina and the region.
This year, Fundación Libertad turned 35 and celebrated it with a banquet that brought together the main celebrities and figures of Argentine and regional liberalism. Gerardo and Alejandro Bongiovanni, president and director of the think tank, were in charge of organizing and receiving the guests.
In addition to Macri, the presence of former presidents Sebastián Piñera (Chile), Felipe Calderón (Mexico), Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga (Bolivia); the Vice President of Uruguay, Beatríz Agrimón; and the Spanish deputy Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo; the senator and former judge of Brazil, Sergio Moro; the Minister of Economy of Ecuador, Pablo Arosemena. They were joined by a group of Hispanic American legislators and leaders.

In the liberal rally there were also mayors of the PRO, diplomats, intellectuals and academics linked to liberalism; provincial legislators and territorial leaders of JxC. There were also representatives of the private sector, businessmen and members of different levels of the judiciary.
Macri, Larreta and Bullrich were assigned the same table, in front of the stage in the central room. Along with the founder of PRO was his wife, Juliana Awada. Adjacent to the Macri couple were Agrismón and Alfredo Cornejo, national senator of the UCR. Álvarez de Toledo and the former leaders were also there. However, the mayor of the City only stayed for a moment, they talked for about 15 minutes and left for another commitment.
The head of the City Government arrived accompanied by Buenos Aires officials Fernando Straface, Secretary General and International Relations, Felipe Miguel, Chief of Staff, and Waldo Wolff, Secretary of Public Affairs. As soon as he entered the red carpet at the main entrance, he exchanged a hug with Fernando De Andreis, Macri’s personal secretary, and with the Radical Evolution deputy Rodrigo De Loredo. Both waited to receive Macri. While Gustavo Gómez Repetto, spokesman for the former President, did not move from the entrance until the arrival of his boss.

For her part, Bullrich was one of the first to attend. Minutes after 8:00 p.m., the former Minister of Security arrived at the place accompanied by her husband, Guillermo Yanco. Around Bullrich came the national deputies Hernán Lombardi, Federico Angelini, Fernando Iglesias, and the leader Paula Bertol, aligned with macrismo and bullrichism.

The president of the PRO gave a few words to the television media and then began to greet the leadership that was already in Parque Norte. At every step she took, they asked her for a selfie. Bullrich walked slowly until entering the room, between a kiss and a smile with the leaders who came up to greet her.

The former President was the star figure of the event organized by the liberal think tank. Around 9:00 p.m., Macri entered the charming “Golden Center Complex” room in Parque Norte. When he arrived, all the local and international personalities had already arrived. However, the founder of PRO burst into the room where the initial cocktail was taking place and captivated all eyes.
Macri was not there: before his arrival at the event, the conversation that circulated among the attendees was about opinions, comments and analysis on the announcement that he published yesterday regarding his decision not to run for the next elections.

The event was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. At that time the first guests had already arrived. At the entrance, the Bongiovannis received the attendees, who were then photographed with a banner from the Foundation in the background.
At the opening there was a cocktail that lasted for about an hour. In that section, the personalities exchanged greetings and conversations. Politics and the economy monopolized the cabals that unfolded throughout the ground floor room. Although no issue took away the centrality of Macri’s resignation.
“It is a great macana about Mauricio. He synthesized the space and slowed Milei down. I don’t know what we’re going to do now”, commented a prominent referent of the Buenos Aires PRO, while talking with a group of deputies and territorial leaders.
Throughout the room, representatives and representatives of the PRO talked with colleagues from radicalism or liberalism in JxC. They whispered about Macri’s announcement, the discussion about the opposition candidacies and about what the next steps will be in the coalition.
Minutes after the admission of Rodríguez Larreta, who was also present was Diego Santilli, a Larretista bishop in the province of Buenos Aires. Cristian Ritondo, María Eugenia Vidal’s candidate for governor, was also there; as well as Joaquín De La Torre, Javier Iguacel and Néstor Grindetti, the Buenos Aires postulants of bullrichism. Nobody wanted to be left out of the photo album with a political wink. Ritondo did not miss the opportunity to take a picture with Bullrich. The president of the PRO block in Deputies is a faithful side of Vidal. However, he maintains oiled conversations with bullrichism.

Meanwhile, the larretista troop was delimited. The bulk of the cabinet and the team of the head of government were at the dinner that CIPPEC also did. The Fundación Libertad event attracted a majority of personalities who reconciled their ideas with the discourse of the “hawk” wing of JxC.
Among the personalities of culture and artists, the most outstanding presence was that of Mirtha Legrand, the queen of television lunches. The host shared a table with Cornejo, Ritondo, Hernán Lombardi, national deputy, Néstor Grindetti, mayor of Lanús, Jorge Macri, Buenos Aires minister and candidate for head of the City Government, together with his wife, the journalist María Belén Ludueña.

PRO mayors such as Diego Valenzuela, from Tres de Febrero, Guillermo Montenegro, from General Pueyrredón, Héctor Gay, from Bahía Blanca, and Martín Yeza, from Pinamar, were also present. The Buenos Aires tandem of the yellow party will see Macri again this morning, at the meeting of the Provincial Space Table.
As for the speakers, Macri closed the dinner after 11:00 p.m. Taking the microphone, the former Argentine head of state began by thanking the Foundation with a few paragraphs that, according to himself, were written by the artificial intelligence application ChatGPT: “I am not going to read the entire speech to you, although it is really very good. I did this because it shows the technological revolution that humanity is in, ”he explained.
Then, he got fully involved in politics and remarked that the country is “still suffering, with triple-digit inflation, the highest in 31 years.” Macri considered that this situation is “the product of the fact that a demolition army is ruling us that has done never-before-seen damage in such a short time,” although he remarked that he is “optimistic” and that “all this pain today has turned into learning , in maturity”.

Before him his colleagues from the region had spoken. In principle, he took the floor Álvarez de Toledo. The Spanish deputy gave a speech critical of the leftist movements. “Pessimism is the greatest ally of populism. Argentina does not need more left. It is a formidable country that needs a government willing to combat populism, that punishes corruption, the paralyzing subsidy mentality, that appeals to the responsibility of citizens, said Álvarez de Toledo and emphasized: “Defeat Kirchnerism, put an end to the decadence and rancor.”
Along the same lines, Calderón called for the opposition to come together. “He has to organize, participate and win the next elections for Argentina to get back on track,” said the former Mexican president.

Next, Quiroga highlighted the gesture of the former Argentine head of state for not being a candidate. “Non-Peronists did not last four years in government. They must thank Macri. His decision yesterday is what guarantees that the bloc remains united. plenipotentiary ambassador of democracy throughout the region and guarantor of change in Argentina”, said the former president of Bolivia. “I want to thank and congratulate Mauricio Macri because he has been a fighter for freedom since I have known him,” Piñera agreed in the same vein.
At the end of the speeches, a toast was made among those present. Among which were also senators Carolina Losada and Luis Naidenoff; deputies Mario Negri, Martín Tetaz and Rodrigo De Loredo from the UCR. Emilio Monzó, one of the Peronist legs of JxC. In representation of the liberal leg of the opposition coalition, the presence of deputies José Luis Espert and Ricardo López Murphy stand out.
