Movie star Orlando Bloom comes to Ukraine to visit war-affected children and families.
The British actor, known for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings, has traveled to the country in conflict as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador to support the reconstruction of infrastructure for children.
In addition, Bloom held a meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodimir Zelensky. The president explained in a statement that among the priorities of this meeting were “the development of the family care system for children deprived of parental care, the creation of infrastructures for early childhood development, as well as the promotion of youth projects and entrepreneurs (‘startups’)”.
Zelenski thanked the actor for his visit and his work at Unicef, which represents “an important message. It is of great importance to us – he stressed – that the world knows what is happening in Ukraine during the war.”
During his meeting with the head of state of Ukraine, Bloom stated that he was “impressed by the courage and resistance of the Ukrainians who, despite the war, remain strong.”
The Ukrainian president emphasized the need to create a safe environment for children, which is why he asked the actor that Unicef focus its efforts on providing air-raid shelters for schools. Orlando Bloom explained, for his part, that he had visited one of the schools in Irpin, already equipped with a bomb shelter which, he said, is part of the “type of projects that are important to UNICEF”.
In addition, they also dealt with the problem of Ukrainian children deported to Russia. The humanitarian foundation “Save Ukraine” claims that only 324 of the at least 16,200 children who have been deported and held in Russia have returned to Ukraine. This explains that both families, voluntary foundations and the State treat each case separately in the absence of a single mechanism for their repatriation.
