Comedian Wim de Bie of the iconic duo Kooten and De Bie has passed away at the age of 83. There is a lot of reaction to the news on social media.
VPRO, De Bie’s employer for many years, out condolences to his loved ones. “Wim, together with Van Kooten and De Bie, determined the face of the VPRO. What remains is the memory of a great maker, whose work we cherish.”
“How are we going to process this loss? A black day for our city,” says comedian Sjaak Bral from The Hague Twitter. De Bie was a well-known resident of The Hague and was also born in the city.
De Bie, who was tall in stature, is described by language artist Wim Daniëls as “a big man and a great man in one”.

Michiel Veenstra was a big fan of De Bie’s work. “You will leave behind such a legendary oeuvre as Wim de Bie (and Kees van Kooten)”, writes the radio presenter.

Luke Ikink praises the Bieslog, the weblog that De Bie kept at the beginning of this millennium. With the online diary, De Bie was one of the first webloggers, with whom he was widely followed. Many other Twitter users share that they were also big fans of Bieslog.
Podcaster Nynke de Jong often watched Van Kooten and De Bie as a child.

Comedian Sanne Wallis de Vries thinks that the press release that VPRO sent about De Bie’s death would have been good satire material for him. “He would probably have put ‘what he has meant cannot be underestimated’ in your press release in a very fine and hilarious way. After all, what he has meant cannot be overestimated.”
Comedian Mike Bodde feels feels “displaced” now that De Bie is gone. “Wim de Bie, together with Kees, formed the backdrop against which my entire childhood took place. He was part of my frame of reference.”
Television maker Henk Westbroek calls De Bie a “humorist out of thousands”. “A wise man, a first-class musician and as icing on this cake, a very nice person.”
