The Megalopolis Environmental Commission announced the activation of phase 1 of the environmental contingency in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM), due to the high concentration of ozone. At the cutoff of 4:00 p.m. on March 25, a maximum concentration of 161 ppb was recorded at the FES Acatlán monitoring station, in the Municipality of Naucalpan de Juárez, State of Mexico.

The agency explained that the large amount of ozone was caused by the high solar radiation prevailing during this day and by the atmospheric stability in the center of the country, which in turn derived from the high pressure system that has affected Mexico since Friday the 24th. of March.
Due to the environmental contingency, restrictions were imposed on road traffic for Sunday, March 26. From 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., the following vehicles must stop circulating:

b) Vehicles for private use with a type 1 verification hologram whose last numerical digit is 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, as well as those whose license plate consists only of letters.

c) Vehicles for private use with verification hologram “0 and 00”, red sticker, license plate ending 3 and 4.
d) Units that do not carry a verification hologram, such as old vehicles, demonstration or transfer vehicles, new ones, those with a tourist pass, foreign plates or plates formed by letters, apply the same restriction as to vehicles that carry a hologram. “2”.
e) Restriction to the circulation of 50% of the LP gas distribution units to stationary tanks that do not have a dry disconnection valve, whose registration termination is NON.
f) Local or federal cargo vehicles stop circulating between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., with the exception of those that are in the CDMX or EDOMEX Self-regulation Program.
g) Taxis with a verification hologram “1” or “2” that must stop circulating according to the provisions indicated in subparagraphs a), b), and c) will apply the restriction to circulation from 10:00 to 22:00 hours.
