Sofía Calzetti, alone with Infobae: her childhood, the early days in Manchester with Kun Agüero and how they faced the hard trance of retirement

The youngest of three brothers. The only female daughter. Sofía Calzetti remembers her childhood, always taking great care of her, until at the age of 21, after meeting Sergio Kun Agüero, she decides to swerve and travel to Manchester to meet who she was a footballer at the time. . Needless to say, her decision did not have the support of the rest of her family, but the impulsive young woman risked herself for love.

“I was the baby of the family – recalls Sofía, in this intimate conversation with Romina Traetta for Infobae – my brothers are two and four years older than me. And mom raised us with a lot of love. But of course, she was a young mother and she left a lot of things along the way, a lot of dreams. She was fully dedicated to us. And I saw her as a little lonely at home. My dad had his activities, he came back at night ”.

Regarding his father, there are two words to describe him that immediately come out of his heart: “I love him.” “Everything is for me. I have a very close relationship. I tell my friends: we go out for walks a lot and at that moment I leave my cell phone, I don’t even take it with me, and we talk about life. He accompanies me a lot, he is a super father. I hope that tomorrow the father of my children will be like him, I swear to you, ”she predicts.

Sofia Calzetti and Sergio Agüero: a couple that strengthens over time

When talking about the future father of his children, Kun Agüero enters the story, whom he met in a nightclub in Buenos Aires thanks to a mutual friend. “I had taken a table with my friends there because one was going to live in Europe and we all got together and we did it as a farewell. And he just goes to the table across the street. A person we have in common who tells me: ‘Hey, come say hello’, and I don’t know what. I go and hit the best from the first moment. How we shit ourselves laughing…!”

Not everything would be so easy, since Agüero was about to return to Manchester. This is how they began to talk at a distance. “It was every day, until he started with the idea of ​​the type: ‘Come, come, come’, and it filled me with fear when I raised it with my dad. It was a problem at home because there was a lot of prejudice against the soccer player.” But Sofia, despite everything, she knew what decision she wanted to make. Love was stronger.

“I don’t forget anymore – he goes back to that day of the break with his father -, he sat me down in an armchair and told me that he did not agree with the decision I was making: ‘Get fixed…, who is going to take you to the airport? I’m not going to take you’. He threw my passport on the table at me!” she recalled.

After his father’s words, doubts arrived: “He grabbed me as fear. But it was also a time in my life where she was more impulsive. Today, with therapy, with tools, one thinks about things more and processes more. At that moment I said: ‘It’s over, I’m leaving’. So it was”. Although she made it clear that her intention, at that time, was simply to meet him: “I felt like I was going on a trip.”

His relationship with Gianinna Maradona

In those first days they were in separate hotels, but soon they would live together. “I went to live with him for months. But yes, it changed my life completely. I started at the age of 21 taking care of a house with everything that implies, from shopping to cooking, ”she recalls. And even, to his lack of knowledge of the English language, was added the fact of how he changed his lifestyle from one day to the next with respect to what was happening in Buenos Aires. “More than going to the supermarket and the basics, I didn’t have much of a relationship with the outside world. Besides we lived on the outskirts of Manchester ”, he points out.

“I trained every morning: that was what got me going and what gave me strength. It filled me with energy because I had moments when I was very low. I didn’t feel like getting up, it was hard for me and I didn’t have anything to do because I had no motivation”, says Sofía, remembering her loneliness, outside of Sergio’s company. “In Manchester there was (Nicolás) Otamendi’s wife, Celeste, who is a sweetheart and she lived close to home. But she already had a different rhythm of life because she had children who went to school ”.

Then the pandemic would come, the confinement, more time to live together. And meeting. “There Sergio started with the topic of the stream, which was super crazy. Many people criticized him and the truth is that he discovered that there. We get along really good. I cooked a lot. I listen to the music on the stick, I start to sing, to shout. I am quite cheerful. And he made me do soccer training. You don’t know what amused us.”

Living in a house with a garden, they had the possibility of putting together various training routines: “I have some super funny videos. He would put all the soccer cones on me and make me run, and I am a cheese with the ball, can you imagine, backwards ”. Sofia takes those weeks as the moment of strengthening the couple. “The truth is that we had a great time. Besides, in England it was not as restrictive as here. And we could go out, we would go running together. He kept training himself so as not to miss a beat. So we share a lot.”

The jealousy of Kun Agüero

The pandemic also led to Benjamin, the result of the relationship between Agüero and Gianinna Maradona, living with them for at least three months. “I’m going to be completely honest: at first it wasn’t easy for me because I always dreamed of being a mother and I dream of that, and it was kind of hard for me that he (by Kun) had already experienced that,” says Calzetti.

“I love him (Benjamin). It’s all that’s right in this world, I swear. He recently turned 14 and is incredibly respectful. It is a love. I mean, he comes to my house and says: ‘Sofi, can I get something to drink?’ And I tell him: ‘My love, it’s your house, take what you want’. Or he comes to me and says: ‘Can I give the bitches something?’, Because even the big people don’t ask you. He finishes eating and grabs his plate and takes it to the kitchen, ”he admits about his partner’s son.

And those details, Sofía knows, also speak of what the parents were. “I once ran into Gianinna on Benja’s birthday last year and I told her: ‘I don’t know you as a person but the truth is that what I can say is that you are an excellent mother, and I tell you that too to Sergio, because the truth is that the baby is ten points’”.

And when are you Sofia or Kuncitos? “I love it and I dream since always. In fact, I thought that maybe by this time in my life I would be a mother. But at the same time I have many fears, like I also created something in my head that little by little I am collapsing, as is the image of that perfect family. And in the end one realizes that in relationships, in life, problems arise… ”, she affirms, trying not to repeat what happened with her parents, who separated from her when she was 17 years old.

Regarding her professional situation, when Sofía arrived in Manchester she began to devise her own brand of sportswear. It’s just that, as she remembers, she worked a lot with the psychologist on that subject. “Did you see that there are people who play football well, sing well or paint well? I didn’t know where to start. I used to study law and then I started a public auctioneer and worked in that ”, she recounts about her time in Buenos Aires just before meeting Sergio.

“But I knew that I wanted to do something with my life. I wanted my children to look at me tomorrow and tell me: ‘She’s not only my mom, but my mom does this.’ Let them be proud, let them see an active mom. I fight all the time and every day for that.”

“The young but ambitious project is called Zettia, because when I say my last name I always have to emphasize that it is with a z and a double t”. As Sofía explains, the inspiration comes from the “empowerment of women”. And although she is in charge of everything, she has people who accompany her: “I don’t have partners but we make up a group of great women. I am the creative director and the design part is what I like the most, the photo productions and everything that has to do with the visual, communication, not the numbers, but I have a person indicated for each specialty”.

The 33-year-old Kun joined FC Barcelona after a free transfer from Manchester City in July 2021. He did not get to play alongside Messi because the Argentine captain moved to Paris Saint Germain. On October 30 at the Camp Nou, the local played a La Liga match against Alavés. Agüero had to be replaced at minute 42 due to a cardiac arrhythmia.

Initially, the doctors indicated three months of studies to follow the evolution of his health. However, on December 15 of that year he himself would confirm his retirement from football, in a visibly emotional press conference, for which he was accompanied by the club’s president, Joan Laporta.

“A precise image came to my head: we were with him and his mother, and she almost died, poor thing. The moment was super strong. The doctor told him: ‘Look, if you were my son, I would recommend that you stop playing.’ So”. And the doctor continued detailing the complexity of the case: “I can do all kinds of studies for you, but I can see up to a certain level, I will never see the demand that you can have on the pitch, with emotions and with everything. I mean, you can give everything, okay, but at that moment…”.

Not everything was so easy for the couple in those days. “I tried to be very calm because at first he was touched. I don’t know if it could be said that he had panic attacks because I don’t know the exact definition, but it happened to me once when we were in Buenos Aires and at five in the morning he woke up yelling at me: ‘Take me to the doctor!’ I jump out of bed to drive and thinking where the hell am I taking it, you know? I didn’t know where to start. I call my dad… he didn’t answer me. I call his representative and he took care of me, because we were kind of baffled. Meanwhile, Sergio called his doctor and reassured him. He made me count the beats and there he relaxed. But I imagine that what he must have felt was very ugly and there must be a fear that he would happen to you again ”.

Regarding the present, Sofía affirms: “I think that Sergio has a lot of inner strength and all this that he began to undertake was carried out very easily. With all this stuff about the stream he was super excited, so he grabbed a lot of things that he liked and in the end it wasn’t that difficult, it wasn’t that tragic”. Also, of course, the support is mutual: “He was the one who gave me the chance to actually fulfill this. He always understood me and is happy for me. The other day, when we did the event for Zettia, he sent me a super nice message telling me that he was very proud of me and yes, that he was happy with everything he was doing ”.

And how was the relationship between Kun and Sofia’s parents? “They adore him, even when they met him. Sergio is a person that everyone loves. He is super humble, very lovable because it is impossible for someone not to love him ”, closed Sofía Calzetti.
