The recordings of the British car program Top Gear have been temporarily halted, the BBC announced on Thursday. The decision was made because presenter Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff was injured during filming last December.
“It feels inappropriate given the circumstances to continue filming this 34th season,” the BBC said. A decision will be made later this year on whether to continue the season. “We understand that this is disappointing for the fans.”
Flintoff was injured last December on the test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, England. He immediately received medical attention and was taken to hospital. It was not disclosed whether Flintoff himself was behind the wheel.
Top Gear is a popular car show that has been around for over twenty years. It was long presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. They cleared the field in 2015 after Clarkson hit an employee. Since then there have been several presenters. Flintoff has been involved with the program since 2019.
