The Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE) announced that it held a meeting with United States (USA) authorities to ensure that the search for Nathan Karim is carried out more quickly.

Nathan Karim is identified as the alleged person responsible for having run over three people (two of them minors) in Hermosillo, Sonora, on Sunday March 5, which is why he would have fled to the neighboring country to avoid the authorities.

For this reason, the head of the FGJE, Claudia Indira Contreras, held a meeting with the Deputy Attaché of the National Security Investigations Office at the US Consulate in Hermosillo, where they presented the evidence collected that allowed them to locate their escape.

The event took place during the evening of March 5, around 7:30 p.m., according to the Municipal Public Security Directorate, when a white sedan vehicle hit a man on Libertad y Mecánicos street in the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood. three people.

It was a mother, identified as Brenda; her daughter Jimena and her nephew Favré, who were crossing the street and were a few steps from the sidewalk when the vehicle passed at high speed, impacting the family. All three are admitted to a hospital for the injuries caused.

After this, the driver fled and until now remains a fugitive from justice. Shortly after, the identity of the alleged perpetrator was revealed after reviewing the videos and collecting testimonials: Nathan Karim.

As part of the actions of the authorities to find his whereabouts, an arrest warrant was issued and on March 17 the FGJE requested a Red Search Sheet and an Immigration Alert on suspicion of his passage to the United States with the presumed help from his family.

“We have information in the sense that from the day after the events occurred, the person responsible crossed into the United States in the company of his relatives,” said the attorney general in a video shared on the social media account of the Prosecutor’s Office.

In the video statement, he also mentioned that the fact that Nathan Karim had relatives in the state public service did not affect the investigation against him, since his parents had been summoned to testify before the Public Ministry.

On March 21, the prosecutor stated that Nathan’s parents appeared before the ministry but refrained from making any statement as stipulated in articles 361 and 222 of the National Code of Criminal Procedures.

Especially the 361 maintains that they can “refrain from declaring the guardian, curator, ward, spouse, common-law husband or cohabitant of the accused (…), his relatives by blood in the ascending or descending straight line up to the fourth degree and in the collateral by consanguinity up to the second degree inclusive, unless they were complainants.

On the other hand, the head of the Legal Department of the State Government, Ariel Córdova Pimentel, reported that Nathan Karim’s mother continues to be active in the State Public Defender’s Office, having not been notified for other reasons.

“I am not aware that the Prosecutor’s Office has required her as something other than the owner of a vehicle (…) if she were summoned in another capacity, then she would have to be informed,” she declared for Diario Sonora.
