Green light from the Assembly to algorithmic video surveillance

The deputies approved Thursday, March 23 the use of so-called “intelligent” video surveillance, based on algorithms, which the executive wants to experiment before and during the 2024 Olympics, despite fears of security abuses from the left. Article 7 of the Olympic bill was adopted with 59 votes in favor (presidential majority, LR and RN) against 14 against (Nupes). The experiment could start as soon as the law is promulgated, and concern for example the next Rugby World Cup in September-October.

Death of a high school student in the middle of the bac test

The Minister of Education Pap Ndiaye announced on Thursday March 23 the opening of an administrative investigation by the General Inspectorate, following the death on Tuesday March 21 of a high school student who succumbed to a heart attack in the middle of the baccalaureate test at Lille. The 19-year-old had a heart condition. The Minister would like clarification on the conditions of his care before the arrival of help and the management of the crisis situation within the establishment.

Summer

Time change this weekend

France, like all the other countries of the European Union, will switch to summer time this weekend. The time change will take place on the night of Saturday March 25 to Sunday March 26: at 2 a.m., it will be 3 a.m. In March 2019, MEPs voted to abolish the time change. This decision, which was to take effect in 2021, was however not implemented due to the health crisis and an unfavorable opinion from the European Council.
