Little by little, more and more is becoming known about the latest Mission: Impossible movies. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two (2024) will, as usual, be packed with action and stunts, but also a number of returning characters. With the new announcement of a former cast member, it seems that Tom Cruise’s character will come full circle.
Return of Rolf Saxon
Director Christopher McQuarrie announces through a photo on Instagram that actor Rolf Saxon will return for the first time since Mission: Impossible (1996). Saxon played the role of CIA analyst William Donloe who was poisoned by Ethan Hunt and other members of the IMF team. Their mission was to infiltrate a high-security CIA vault and steal the NOC list, which contains the identities and locations of every agent in deep cover around the world. Since it was Donloe’s job to protect the list and he failed to do so, he was fired and transferred to a polar station in Alaska. But it seems he’s not done with Ethan Hunt just yet.
Old and new faces
While little is known about the two Dead Reckoning movies, the first trailer for Part One reveals the return of some well-known characters played by Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Henry Czerny. We will also be introduced to some new cast members: Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes and Shea Whigham. McQuarrie also announced via his Instagram that Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has joined the cast.
McQuarrie unfortunately does not specify whether we will see Saxon and Waddingham in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, or in the sequel. It seems more likely that won’t be until Part Two, since that movie is currently still in production.
This summer the adventure starts
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits theaters July 13. Then we can look forward to the direct sequel, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, scheduled for June 27, 2024.
