The board of Mores, the reporting center for undesirable behavior in the cultural sector, is stepping down. There will be an external advisor who will form a new board because the board “has itself become a topic of discussion,” a statement said. That is bad for the image of the hotline and that is why the board is stepping down.
Earlier, chairman of the board Janke Dekker left Mores. She is the partner of NOS presenter Tom Egbers, who was discredited after a publication in de Volkskrant about transgressive behavior in the sports editors of the NOS and cannot be seen on TV for the time being. He was in a relationship with a colleague.
When Dekker found out, Egbers would have bullied and intimidated the woman. In a conversation with talk show Khalid and Sophie, Egbers confirmed the relationship last week. He contradicted the Volkskrant article on a number of points, but did not deny that he repeatedly called the woman “the axis of evil” in front of colleagues. He regrets that, says Egbers.
Confidential advisors
Dekker thinks that her husband is wrongly under fire, but nevertheless gave up her position.
Mores was founded in 2018 after the emergence of the #MeToo movement. The board consists of people who themselves work in the cultural and creative sector. Reports are not handled by the board, but by independent confidential advisers.
De Volkskrant wrote in the article about NOS Sport that several people did not report abuses to Mores because, given Dekker’s position, they had doubts about the independence of the hotline. Dekker would not have wanted to answer questions about this.
