The Justice and Security Inspectorate has launched an exploratory investigation into the actions of the police after finding child pornography on Donny M’s telephone. He is suspected of kidnapping, abusing and killing 9-year-old Gino in June last year.
The investigation is being carried out in response to new information about the actions of the police. That information was obtained from another investigation into M. that has been running for some time. This study by the Social Domain Supervision looks at the care and supervision of M.
The police found child pornography on M’s phone in 2021. The inspectorate now wants to know how the police made considerations and carried out the work after the discovery. M. was convicted in 2017 of abusing and assaulting two boys in Sittard.
The discovery of the child pornography had no direct legal consequences in 2021, the inspectorate said. Only after M. was arrested as a suspect in the Gino case was the finding of child pornography involved in the case.
Based on the results of the orientation, the Inspectorate determines whether there will be a follow-up investigation.
