Donation figures in France

2.84 billion euros.

This is the amount of donations declared for income tax in 2021, according to the latest figures from the Research & Solidarity network of experts. This amount was up by 1.9% compared to 2020, a year which had seen an exceptional increase of 7.1%.

…made a donation in 2021, a decrease of 1.9% compared to 2020. In total, 20% of taxed households declared a donation. This proportion rises to 40% among households that declare more than €78,000 in income per year and falls to 5.1% among those who earn less than €19,000.

This is the average amount of the donation declared in 2021. This amount has been constantly increasing since 2013, when it was €404. It is among 50-59 year olds that this average amount is the highest: it reaches €671.

70 years and over.

This is the age group with the most donors: 20.4% of them declared a donation in 2021. The density of donors then decreases with age. It is 3.4% for those under 30.

This is the average share of taxable income given by those under 30. This rate of effort is practically the same as that of those over 70, who give more in amounts but almost as much in proportion to their means. It is among 40-49 year olds that the effort rate (1.9%) is the lowest.

…are collected by social and charitable action, which appears to be the cause that brings together the most donations in 2021, ahead of international solidarity (489 million euros), medical research (193 million euros), then aid for sick or disabled people (138 million euros) and the environment (103 million euros).

…are engaged as volunteers within an association, according to this survey conducted by Ifop among 3,155 people questioned in January 2023 on behalf of Research & Solidarity. Effect of the pandemic obliges, the proportion of French volunteers had fallen from 24% in 2019 to 20% in 2022.
