In Belgium, the police shot a patient in a psychiatric hospital. The 49-year-old man is said to have behaved aggressively. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital, Belgian media report.
The incident took place this morning in a Fond’Roy psychiatric hospital in Uccle, just south of Brussels. Clinic staff called the police because the patient threatened employees. Police say the man was carrying a stabbing weapon.
Officers allegedly tried to calm the man down and at one point one of them shot at the patient. He was hit in the arm and abdomen. He was seriously injured and taken to hospital. The man died around 11:30 am.
The victim’s family has been informed of his death. The agents receive psychological support. The authorities have launched an investigation into what exactly happened and whether they acted correctly.
