In the last quarter of 2022, 77.2 percent of 20 to 64-year-olds were working in Flanders. This is evident from figures from the Belgian statistical office Statbel. Flanders is thus approaching the target figure of an employment rate of 80 percent in 2030.

Minister of Employment Pierre-Yves Dermagne announced this weekend that the Belgian employment rate has risen to 72.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022. According to the minister, the government’s target of achieving an employment rate of 80 percent by 2030 is “within reach”, according to the minister.
More detailed figures from Statbel show that the employment rate in Flanders rose from 76.8 percent in the third quarter to 77.2 percent. The employment rate for men is even 80.5 percent, for women 74 percent.
In Wallonia and Brussels, the unemployment rate fell in the last quarter. In Brussels there was a decrease from 65.8 to 65.1 percent. For example, just under six in ten women between the ages of 20 and 64 are working there. In Wallonia, the employment rate fell slightly to 65.8 percent in the fourth quarter, compared to 65.9 percent in the third quarter.
