FC Barcelona took an important step towards the national title on Sunday. The leader in La Liga beat Real Madrid 2-1 thanks to a late goal and thus increased the lead over the arch-rival.
Real Madrid took an early lead at Camp Nou thanks to an own goal from Ronald Araújo. Sergi Roberto equalized on the stroke of half time.
Ten minutes before the end, Real scored again, but Marco Asensio’s goal was disallowed. The VAR concluded that the Spanish attacker was offside.
The match seemed to be heading for a draw, but Franck Kessié still gave FC Barcelona the win in stoppage time. Frenkie de Jong played the entire match with the home team.
Thanks to the victory, FC Barcelona is even more firmly in the lead in La Liga. The Catalans are twelve points ahead of number two Real. There are still twelve rounds to go in La Liga.

Real takes the lead thanks to an own goal
Real started well in ‘El Clásico’ and led 0-1 within ten minutes. The Madrilenians were a bit lucky, because a cross from Vinícius Júnior ended up in the goal via Araújo’s head.
FC Barcelona then went looking for the equalizer and came close a number of times via Andreas Christensen. The Dane first headed wide and moments later tried with a long shot, which was beautifully turned by Thibaut Courtois.
Just before half-time it was a hit for Barcelona. Real’s defense failed to clear Raphinha’s shot, after which Roberto placed the ball in the right corner.

Kessié gives FC Barcelona the win in injury time
In the second half FC Barcelona had the upper hand and that led to a number of chances for Robert Lewandowski. For example, the Polish striker shot just wide from a distance and tried acrobatically a little later, but that attempt also failed. Courtois then returned another bet from Raphinha.
The game was heading for a draw, but ten minutes before the end Asensio found the goal for Real almost out of nowhere. But on the advice of the VAR, the goal was canceled because the attacker was offside at Dani Carvajal’s cross.
Real was also dangerous a number of times afterwards, but Karim Benzema, among others, failed to score. On the other hand, it was hit in injury time. After a nice heel from Lewandowski and a cross from Alejandro Baldé, Kessié shot in the 2-1.
