The Government of Mexico City estimated the attendance of 500,000 people at the rally called by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) on March 18. This figure would exceed the numbers calculated by the capital’s Secretary of Security on the mobilization in defense of the National Electoral Institute (INE) on February 26.

Through its official Twitter account, the Segob of the CDMX reported on the congregation that took place in the Plaza de la Constitución, where attendees met to listen to the commemorative speech of the first federal president on the 83rd anniversary of the Oil Expropriation. .

On the other hand, the Road Guidance Center of the capital’s Secretary of Citizen Security (Ovial) estimated that the number of mobilization in favor of the electoral body totaled approximately 90 thousand people, an amount that was contradicted by its conveners.

The march held on February 26 in the country’s capital against the secondary reforms in electoral matters, better known as Plan B, was promoted by different non-governmental organizations and opposition figures, who indicated that unlike the data Segob CDMX, attendance was over 500,000.
This was stated by the senator of the National Action Party (PAN), Kenia López Rabadán, who used her social networks to cite “other data”.

It is worth mentioning that this “pink” demonstration in favor of the INE was criticized by President Andrés Manuel, who assured that its promoters, mostly leaders of the “conservative” parties, only sought to defend their “privileges”, especially in the face of the modifications of his ballot initiative.
“The majority (leaders) have participated in previous governments, have been defenders of electoral fraud, have been part of corruption in Mexico,” highlighted the federal president in his past daily conference on February 27.
Days after the INE march, President Andrés Manuel promoted with greater impetus the congregation of the 83rd anniversary of the Oil Expropriation, which would take place in the Zócalo of the capital, and where he would give a speech in the framework of the 18th of March.

Said call was promoted by members and supporters in favor of the government of the Fourth Transformation (4T), who confirmed their attendance in support of the federal president. Among the participants stood out figures such as Claudia Sheinbaum, Marcelo Ebrard, Adán Augusto and Ricardo Monreal, all aspiring to the presidential candidacy for Morena.
The rally called by the head of the federal Executive began early, when hundreds of people began to arrive at the capital’s Zócalo, despite the weather conditions that occurred at times. Governors, deputies, senators and more also arrived at the place, who accompanied President López Obrador in his speech.

The first federal president left the National Palace at 5 in the afternoon, when the plaza in the Plaza de la Constitución was almost full. The surrounding streets had giant screens to broadcast live the speech of the Mexican president, who took the podium to address the attendees.
During his speech, President Andrés Manuel recalled the Oil Expropriation, which he pointed out as an important date for the country’s sovereignty. In the same way, he highlighted some achievements of his administration, especially with regard to social programs.
