FC Volendam booked another home win in the Eredivisie on Friday. The much-discussed club of trainer Wim Jonk was 2-1 too strong for Fortuna Sittard.
The opening goal fell in the final phase of the first half and was scored by Carel Eiting. The captain of Volendam coolly found the far corner in a detached position. Up to that point, Fortunees Tijjani Noslin had had the best chance.
In the lively initial phase of the second half, Oskar Buur quickly made it 2-0, also with a diagonal shot. The game was by no means decided, because Noslin quickly did something back by fumbled through the Volendam defense and scored from a difficult angle. An offensive by Fortuna yielded nothing.
FC Volendam’s last home defeat dates from November 12, when FC Utrecht held home (0-4). Since then, victories over RKC Waalwijk, FC Groningen, Vitesse, FC Emmen and thus Fortuna followed. A 1-1 draw was made against AZ.
Thanks to the seventh season victory, FC Volendam continues its advance in the Eredivisie. The team of trainer Jonk was desolately at the bottom for a long time, but saw the light after the turn of the year and is now number thirteen.
Fortuna Sittard performs differently. The team of the Spanish coach Julio Velázquez, who, unlike last week, now behaved along the line, nevertheless does not have to worry with an eleventh place.
