American actor Lance Reddick has died at the age of 60. His management reports that he died of natural causes this morning.
Reddick often played roles of sinister, icy and intense authority figures. He was best known for the HBO series The Wire and the action film series John Wick. He also starred in other hit series like Fringe and OZ.
He also played the role of the character Sylens in the Dutch PlayStation games Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. These games are seen as the largest Dutch media productions ever.
In The Wire, he played head of Baltimore’s narcotics division, Cedric Daniels. Wendell Pierce, one of his co-stars in the series, praises him on Twitter. “A man of immense strength and elegance. A musician as talented as an actor, the epitome of class,” he writes. He calls his death “an unimaginable suffering for his family and loved ones.”
Television producer David Simon, who created The Wire, calls Reddick a “consummate professional, dedicated collaborator, sweet and gentle man.”
His other big role was as Charon, the concierge of the Continental Hotel in the action movie series John Wick. That hotel was a base for hitmen that John Wick (played by Keanu Reeves) was a part of. The fourth part of the series can be seen in cinemas from next week.
Lead actor Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski say the final film will be dedicated to Reddick. They say they are “heartbroken” over the loss.
