A Hispanic soldier identified as Ana Fernanda Basaldua Ruiz, 21 years old and of Mexican origin, was found dead on Monday, March 13, at the Fort Hood military base, Texas (United States), where she had been stationed for the last 15 months, according to a report. local television station KWTX.

Basaldua was a combat engineer with the 1st Cavalry Division and the causes of her death remain under investigation, according to information provided by the military base, the same one where soldier Vanessa Guillén was reported missing and later found dead in 2020.
The Army indicated that they had notified the soldier’s parents of the death and that they have provided psychological support resources to the family and the colleagues who served with Basaldua in the barracks.

“We are deeply saddened by the irreparable loss of the soldier and we extend our condolences to her father, mother and brother,” says the Army statement under the rubric of Commander Patrick Sullivan.
Private Basaldua, originally from Mexico and a naturalized American, was going to serve three years in the Army and had reported to her parents that she was a victim of sexual harassment, according to local media reports.

The death of another soldier in the same military compound is reminiscent of the case of Guillén, murdered with a hammer by a comrade who removed her body and dismembered it before burying her in a remote place.
The alleged killer, 20-year-old Aaron Robinson, committed suicide as police were preparing to question him after Guillén’s human remains turned up almost two months after his disappearance.
