AZ under 19 reached the semi-finals of the Youth League on Wednesday with a resounding victory over Real Madrid. The Alkmaarders won 4-0 against the ‘Koninklijke’ in front of their own audience.
AZ took on Real Madrid at war strength, with some players who played for Young AZ this season. For example, Mexx Meerdink was at the kick-off as captain. The striker has already scored six times in the Kitchen Champion Division this season and last week participated as a substitute in the main squad’s Conference League match against Lazio.
In the 25th minute it was already a hit for AZ via Daniël Beukers, who tapped in from close range after a scrimmage at a corner. Not much later, the lightning-fast Ernest Poku scored the 2-0 after a long dribble. Poku has already played eleven matches in the Kitchen Champion Division this season.
The victory was no longer in danger for AZ’s talents in the second half. Meerdink made the third goal from close range in the 78th minute and Beukers made the final chord with a shot in the short corner.
AZ is waiting for a match against AC Milan in the semi-finals of the Youth League. The Italian talents were 2-0 too strong for Atlético Madrid on Tuesday. The other semi-final is between Sporting CP and Borussia Dortmund/Hajduk Split.
AZ already made an impression in the knockout phase by beating Eintracht Frankfurt (5-0) and FC Barcelona (3-0).
