In the month of February alone, the federal debt increased by more than 7 billion euros. This is evident from a communication from the Federal Agency of Debt.

In concrete terms, the net federal government debt increased by 7.37 billion euros in February, to 468.612 billion euros. This is a very large amount compared to other monthly increases. Perhaps this is partly due to the fact that the government paid out energy support for families in February, the treasury says.
Credit rating agency Fitch lowered the outlook for our country last week, referring to government debt, among other things. There is therefore a possibility that Belgium’s creditworthiness will be downgraded. And now Friday after close of trading, another rating agency – Standard & Poor’s – will publish new prospects for our country.
