Erik ten Hag is not satisfied with the arbitration after Manchester United’s new loss of points. After the draw against Southampton, the trainer denounces the performance of referee Anthony Taylor and is disappointed by the arbitrariness of the arbitrators in England.
In the home game against low flyer Southampton, Casemiro was sent off after more than half an hour. Referee Taylor converted a yellow card into red after advice from the VAR. Ten Hag did not understand this, according to his reaction in conversation with Sky Sports.
“Casemiro played more than five hundred games and never received a direct red card. Now he already has two in the Premier League,” grumbled Ten Hag, who had his defensive midfielder’s statistics well prepared.
Casemiro, who has to fear a longer suspension after his red card, played in Europe for Real Madrid and FC Porto before his transfer to Manchester United. He got red twice at those clubs and that was in both cases after a second yellow card.
“His absence is not the biggest problem, because we will deal with it,” said Ten Hag. “But the referee influences this game. It’s about the inconsistency, the players no longer know what is and what is not allowed.”

Ten Hag believes that United’s penalty has been taken away
The red card for Casemiro was not the only thing Ten Hag complained about. The coach from Haaksbergen also pointed to a handball from Southampton defender Armel Bella-Kotchap within the penalty area. Referee Anthony Taylor refused to award a penalty.
When Ten Hag was asked afterwards whether it should have been a penalty kick, the former coach of Ajax did not hesitate for a second. “Absolutely,” said the coach. “No doubt about it. I don’t know why VAR didn’t intervene.”
Ten Hag was pleased with his own team, which had one point left over from the duel with relegation candidate Southampton. “They showed less character with a man. It is great that a point was still taken.”
The draw at Old Trafford brings United to fifty points, which is good for third place in the Premier League. The top four may enter the Champions League next season.
