In commemoration of March 8, International Women’s Day, various groups, organizations and relatives of victims of feminicide will take to the streets to demonstrate against sexist violence and in defense of their rights.

Mexico City (CDMX) is one of the points where the greatest influx is expected, since, in 2022 alone, the authorities calculated the participation of approximately 75,000 women.
In this context, the capital’s government announced that at least 800 women from the Atenas women’s group of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) will be deployed.

“Directly there will be 800 women in the place, but they are only pending, there is a reserve of around 2,500 women companions,” explained the head of the Secretariat, Omar García Harfuch, during an interview with the media on the day March 07.
In addition, as expressed by the authorities and in order to protect the right to demonstrate, the Morelos Base will also be installed, from which the exit points of the march will be monitored.

All the officers will be uniformed with anti-riot or protection suits, consisting of a helmet, shield, full uniform and a fire extinguisher, as part of the security operation. According to the authorities of the capital, the “grenadier” costume of the police is to accompany the march participants.

In the case of the use of the fire extinguisher, it is pertinent to point out that, since March 1, the local Human Rights Commission and the staff of the General Directorate of Internal Affairs of the SSC verified that the extinguishers were in optimal conditions to be used this March 8. March.
It should be added that in 2022, the presence of security elements caused divided opinions between collectives and protesters.
And it is that in that year some of the protesters placed flowers to the uniformed women who were distributed throughout the march. In this sense, some police officers were also captured joining the contingent.
However, during the event, some women assured that tear gas was used during the march to mitigate the demonstrations once they arrived at the Zócalo in Mexico City. Said situation was denied by the authorities, despite the fact that testimonies that affirmed the contrary were rescued.

“There was no repression, the right to demonstrate was guaranteed and there were no misfortunes to regret, our adversaries expected that the Palace and the Cathedral would burn down, but necessary measures were taken,” President Andrés Manuel López mentioned at the time. Workshop.
It should be noted that just one day before the march took place, various points in the Mexican capital had already been armored, such is the case of the National Palace, as well as the vicinity of the Zócalo of CDMX.

However, a few hours after being placed and in an act of protest, the collective Antimonumenta Vivas Nos Queremos met to write on the billboards the names of more than a thousand women who have been victims of femicide in the country.
Also, in the center they placed the message “Women who fight, the Glorieta stays.”
