As announced on the weekend of March 4 and 5, public transport bus drivers assigned to routes 12, 57, 84 and 91 in Mexico City will lead a series of demonstrations and possible blockades in various parts of the capital. . The reason for the disagreement of the carriers is the transition process that the authorities of Mexico City are carrying out on the four aforementioned routes. According to the protesters, SEMOVI is committing the unilateral awarding of the lines to private companies.
In this sense, the first weekend of March they announced a possible mobilization for the seventh day of the month in order to make their discontent known. In response, the authorities of the capital, through the entity led by Andrés Lajous Loaeza, issued a statement where they called on the protesters to dialogue internally.
In the document, SEMOVI recalled that since 2022 the work to improve the public transport service of the four routes has been directed, which is indicated in the Mobility Law. The process consists of removing the individual concessions that remain in force to make way for the formation of companies that regulate the activities.
“These routes must go from having individual concessions to the formation of companies. With these changes, bad practices such as competition for fares, tortuguismo, (obstructing traffic), poor service in general and the lack of labor rights for operators, among others, will be eliminated,” they stated in the document published by the social networks from the CDMX secretariat.

In the words of the officials of the Ministry of Mobility, those people who currently participate in activities related to the administration of the service will be able to collaborate in the new entities. Although the agreements have convinced a sector of the interested parties, there is another group that has chosen not to accept the new operating conditions.
One of the routes with the highest number of complaints from users due to bad driver practices, according to SEMOVI, is number 57. In this sense, in August 2022 the creation of a company was requested and undertaken to reduce disagreements, although “a minority group has refrained from participating.”
On the other hand, routes 12, 84 and 91 have made further progress in the formation of the ABC company to make way for the transition. Nevertheless:
“The discontent of a minority group of these three routes is due to the fact that a vote was held to elect the president of the company, who was elected by majority. A person who participated in the assembly but did not obtain the necessary votes to chair the board of directors expressed his intention to create a parallel company, without the support of the majority of the concessionaires,” they explained in the document.
