The municipality of Bunschoten gave amateur club SV Spakenburg permission on Tuesday to play the semi-finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup tournament against PSV at its own sports park De Westmaat. According to the municipality, the game will be finished on Tuesday, April 4 at 8 p.m.
The KNVB still has to determine the final dates of the two semi-finals. According to a spokesman, this may happen during the course of this day.
The amateurs of Spakenburg have surprisingly reached the last four in the cup tournament. The team of trainer Chris de Graaf, who plays in the Second Division, has already eliminated two clubs from the Eredivisie. Spakenburg won 3-2 at FC Groningen in the second round and triumphed 4-1 against FC Utrecht last week in De Galgenwaard.
In last Saturday’s draw, the ‘Blues’ were awarded a home game against PSV. But the club had to get permission from the municipality to be able to play the semi-finals at its own sports park.
Spakenburg plans to expand the sports complex with temporary stands, which will allow about eight thousand spectators to attend the match.
The other cup finalist comes from the duel between Feyenoord and Ajax. That game will probably be played on April 5 or 6 in De Kuip.
