Political trial of the Court: Kirchnerism will summon Stornelli again and threatens to resort to the public force

The Impeachment Committee of the Chamber of Deputies met again today to hear a new round of witnesses in its investigation against the four members of the Supreme Court.

Prosecutor Carlos Stornelli was summoned by Kirchnerism to explain why he asked federal judge Sebastián Ramos to archive the investigation of the alleged leaked chats between the Buenos Aires Minister of Justice and Security, Marcelo D’Alessandro, and the spokesman for the courtier Horacio Rosatti , Silvio Robles.

Stornelli did not appear and did not send any writing. The prosecutor had requested that the ruling party send him his inquiries, but the request was rejected. In fact, they let it be known that they will summon him again to appear in person. The ruling party seeks to expose it publicly in this way.

If the prosecutor is absent again, Kirchnerism plans to request his immunity from the Public Prosecutor’s Office to force him to testify through the public force. For his part, Stornelli will once again excuse himself under Article 63 of the Organic Law of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which allows him to testify in writing.

“Since this commission is not an ordinary court, this exception does not proceed,” replied the head of the commission, Carolina Gaillard. “The prosecutor will be summoned again, clarifying this regulation, also the Attorney Ricardo Casal. If he does not appear and is a reticent witness, the impeachment will be sought to summon him by the public force, ”she continued.

From the opposition, the deputy Juan Manuel López recriminated Gaillard for taking “the power to interpret the regulation” and pointed out that Stornelli did not refuse to testify but asked to do so in writing, therefore “he is not a reticent witness.”

Two weeks ago, when judges Sebastián Ramos and Alejo Ramos Padilla declared, the ruling party argued that the former decided to file the case of the leaked chats between D’Alessandro and Robles based on an opinion from prosecutor Carlos Stornelli. Therefore, the Frente de Todos asked to summon the prosecutor to explain the foundations of his decision.

The opposition opposed it but the Frente de Todos asserted its majority and approved the summons with 16 votes. The pro-government bench pointed out that the precedent set by federal judges Sebastián Ramos and Alejo Ramos Padilla, who appeared to testify, would leave Stornelli in a very “uncomfortable” position if he decided not to attend.

On that occasion, the head of the ruling bloc Germán Martínez asked Judge Ramos if he had any relationship with Marcelo D’Alessandro. The magistrate replied in the negative. Hoy Martínez pointed out that, based on new leaks of alleged chats between Judge Ramos and D’Alessandro, it could “analyze possible false testimony.”

“What we have been warning about since the first meeting has been confirmed. They clearly had the knowledge that an illegal chat existed and so they asked the question that could later collide with that evidence. The maneuver is very clear”, said Silvia Lospennato.
