FC Volendam coach Wim Jonk extended his expiring contract by three years on Tuesday. Chairman Jan Smit, two board members, four directors and three staff members have also signed. They do not bow to the administrative crisis at the Eredivisionist.
The 56-year-old Jonk is part of a power struggle in Volendam, in which he, together with chairman Smit, intended vice-chairman Keje Molenaar and the management, is facing the supervisory board. The Supervisory Board believes that Jonk and his colleagues have too much power.
The many contract extensions represent a new twist in the management chaos. According to NH Nieuws, the SB members will meet later in the day and they can choose to send the board away.
Jonk only wants the best for FC Volendam. “This club does not belong to the commissioners or anyone else. We work together with the management and the board and with that we form one block that has the best intentions with FC Volendam,” he told De Telegraaf earlier on Tuesday about his contract extension.
“We realize that the project is not yet finished. This club is not yet sustainably healthy. That is why we will continue and I also attach great importance to the management also signing up. That is the next step.”

Jonk continues to hope for the arrival of Molenaar
Recently the bomb burst at FC Volendam, when Molenaar decided to refrain from a role as vice-chairman. The former player of Ajax, Feyenoord and Orange, among others, was not happy with statements by supervisory board member Elma de Koekkoek, who had called him “not honest”. The angry Molenaar filed a report for libel and slander.
Despite the riot, Jonk hopes that Molenaar will still become vice-chairman of FC Volendam. “He knows the football and club culture,” he says to De Telegraaf. “How he was attacked and damaged, that is of course not possible. The sober mind must return and we must continue with as strong a team as possible, including Keje.”
Under the leadership of Jonk, who played for Ajax, PSV, Internazionale and the Orange, among others, FC Volendam was promoted to the Eredivisie last season. The club from his hometown had a dramatic start in this, but it is now improving.
After 24 matches, FC Volendam is number fourteen in the Eredivisie. Jonk’s team awaits an away match against leader Feyenoord on Sunday.
