An operation to capture the leaders of the criminal group La Familia Michoacana was deployed by members of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) and members of the National Guard and Guerrero authorities. The objective, as confirmed by the Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), was to comply with two arrest warrants for the crime of qualified homicide against a plaza boss and a head of hit men from the Michoacana Family.

The authorities’ movement was directed against Jhony Hurtado Olascoaga, alias El Pez, as well as his brother José Alfredo, also known as El Fresa, according to a source from the Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to the El Sur media outlet.
The actions were carried out on March 2 and a day later the FGE Guerrero shared a statement in which it detailed the facts, and confirmed that the actions were against the Michoacan Family. For its part, it was not until Saturday, March 4, that the aforementioned media outlet published that the events were to capture El Pez and El Fresa.

Members of the Army, national guards and personnel from the Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office carried out the operation in the town of La Morena, municipality of Petatlán. The uniformed officers arrived in the area at approximately 7:15 a.m. However, during their appeal they came across striking devices that affected around eight military vehicles.

In addition, the troops faced blockades in which people and abandoned vehicles were used with loads of wood. These blockades were intended to hinder the work of the uniformed officers, which meant that the targets to be captured could flee the place.
It should be noted that the agents were intercepted by some 25 people in the Campo de Cielo town, the aggressors, mostly women, used sticks and stones to try to prevent the authorities from entering the town, which resulted in him being beaten a member of the Ministerial Investigative Police and another was injured by a stone.

Faced with this scenario, one of the uniformed men fired his weapon towards the ground on several occasions: “A ministerial agent fired several shots with his charge weapon towards the ground, in order to dissuade said people, an action that allowed them to get through,” detailed the FGE Guerrero.

About the shots by the uniformed men, a video circulated in which the detonations could be heard while profanity was heard and various trucks could be seen passing by.
As a result, the authorities found four pick-up vehicles with reports of theft, marijuana wrappers, a military-type uniform, a marijuana plantation, and a camper with different objects, among other things.
The Hurtado Olascoaga brothers are related to at least 10 investigation folders and are two of the most wanted criminals by the authorities of the State of Mexico. The reward offered for each one is 500 thousand pesos.

Reports indicate that El Pez is originally from the town of Palos Altos, in the municipality of Arcelia, Guerrero, he became the leader of the criminal organization in 2014, after the arrest of José María Chávez, alias El Pony.
For his part, El Fresa has his own clothing brand: HH Clothing and with it he presumably pretends to be a textile businessman. Along with his brother, he was included, during the past six-year term, on the list of priority objectives of the federal government as one of the most dangerous and sadistic drug lords in Mexico.
In November 2022, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against the Familia Michoacana as well as its leaders. The authorities of the neighboring country classified them as a “significant risk” for the United States and they were even accused of trafficking rainbow fentanyl.
