The coup d’état perpetrated by Pedro Castillo on December 7 is known to all Peruvians; however little is known about the behind the scenes of said event. For months there has been speculation about who would have participated and the state in which the president would have been at the time of heading to the country. Now, a new video reveals how he would have been aware of his words.

A video broadcast by Panamericana Televisión shows that the head of state was coordinating the transmission of his speech with his work team. At some point, his discomfort with the delay in the broadcast is recorded. He questions the people in charge who mention to the rest of the team that “Mr. President” asks why he is taking time to start with the message.
The image of Betssy Chávez also appears in the shot prior to the coup. At a certain moment, the former president makes gestures with his hands to finalize details and sends for the person who was then the president of the Council of Ministers. He stresses that they must be informed that what is about to happen is a Message to the Nation. Chávez understands the order and communicates Castillo’s request to the people in charge.

Pedro Castillo came to ask about the location of Alejandro Salas, former Minister of Labor, who was a faithful defender of the Executive. His team tells him that the minister was inside the Government Palace facilities and doubts whether to let him into the room where he was. Finally, he indicates that he will pass to the end of the broadcast of the message. An aide-de-camp takes the opportunity to accommodate the presidential band.
Hours after the message in which Castillo announced the closure of Congress, the seizure of the justice system and the start of a state of emergency, Guido Bellido indicated that perhaps the head of state would have been under the influence of some substances, this due to the tingling hands. However, the video released shows Pedro Castillo aware of all the details around him, including the light that bothered him at times.
