The jet, a Bombardier Challenger 300, had only five people on board, including three passengers. An investigation has been opened by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to try to understand the circumstances that led to this sad event.
The flight was leaving New Hampshire for Virginia. It was while flying over Connecticut that he encountered intense winds, which caused the turbulence.
Other crew members also suffered serious injuries.
A preliminary report is expected within two to three weeks.
According to information from the Associated Press, which cites a database of the US Federal Aviation Administration, the jet belongs to Conexon, a telecommunications agency in Kansas City.
