The works plan begins in Retiro
The Government of the City of Buenos Aires carried out a mega-operation during the early hours of this Saturday to evict manteros and implement an improvement plan around the Retiro station.
This weekend, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires began a work plan to rearrange the public space in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires, with the aim of improving the circulation of the 200,000 people who move daily through the busy area. While the tasks are carried out, the location of a total of seven bus and taxi ranks will be modified momentarily.
It is a joint effort between the Ministries of Security, and Public Space and Urban Hygiene and the Secretary of Transportation and Public Works of the city, which seeks to recover and maintain the environment of the neighborhood.
In this way, 4,500 square meters of sidewalks will be intervened, in which a perimeter fence has already been placed, and the stops of the transfer center will be improved with electrical installation and furniture fine-tuning. In addition, the railings will be repaired and the structures of the Avenida Antártida footbridge will be painted.

Also, the lighting in the area will be reinforced with 100% LED installations and work will be done on pedestrian lighting in existing columns on Avenida del Libertador (on the railway sidewalk), where patching and horizontal demarcation work will be carried out on the sidewalks.
On Avenida Ramos Mejía, the double luminaires in the central docks will be replaced by clovers with 4 light devices on 9-meter columns, and a specific hygiene plan will be carried out: the collection service will be doubled, containers will be relocated and there will be hydro-washing tasks on sidewalks and roads. Likewise, the road and all the horizontal demarcation of the trace will be repaved over 9 blocks.
Added to these works is the intervention of Plaza Canada and its surroundings, with the provision and placement of a total of 6,000 m2 of grass, the replacement of trees (37 banana trees, 17 tipas and 23 jacarandas), replacement of plants (550 cola de zorro), leveling works, replacement of chaff stone and landscaped green embankment. Even the replacement and maintenance of newspaper and flower stalls throughout the neighborhood that are not in good condition will be carried out.

While the works are in progress, the taxi ranks and those of the 28, 70, 75, 92, 100, 101 and 150 buses will be moved. Therefore, so that pedestrians can circulate safely, two lanes will be assigned along Ramos Mejía Avenue and only the side accesses of the San Martín and Belgrano Norte railways will be enabled, since the Miter Line temporarily reduced its route and it does not reach the Retiro station.
Newspaper and flower stalls that are not in good condition will be replaced and maintained.
Simultaneously, more than 50 transit agents will be present in four different locations for the ordering of vehicular traffic: they will be on the street from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. along with 28 awareness-raising workers, in charge of providing information to passers-by. And once the work is finished, there will be a greater presence of security forces in the area.
The work is part of the Comprehensive Plan for Improvements in the Transfer Centers, whose purpose is to improve the travel experience of more than one million passengers and which is also carried out in the important circulation points located in Constitución, Liniers and Sáenz .
