Kylian Mbappé can only call himself the all-time top scorer of Paris Saint-Germain since Saturday evening. The French striker made his 201st goal for the Parisians in the home match against FC Nantes (4-2) in stoppage time.
The 24-year-old Mbappé was already level with Edinson Cavani, who scored 200 goals for PSG between 2013 and 2020. For a long time against Nantes, it did not look like the Frenchman would fully claim the record.
Lionel Messi scored the opening goal in the twelfth minute and his eighteenth official goal of the season. PSG seemed to be heading for an easy victory through an own goal from Jaouen Hadjam, but Nantes fought back to 2-2 in eight minutes.
In the second half, PSG prevented expensive loss of points against the club from the right row. Danilo Pereira headed in a cross from Mbappé fifteen minutes after the break. In the second minute of injury time, the French striker was still accurate himself. He simply turned away and hit, making him PSG’s all-time top scorer.
With the third win in a row, PSG is even more firmly in the lead in Ligue 1. Olympique Marseille has eleven points less than the Parisians, but has played one game less.
In any case, PSG can look forward to the return against Bayern Munich in the eighth finals of the Champions League with a good feeling. The team of coach Christophe Galtier has to eliminate a 0-1 defeat from the first leg in the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday.
