A bus containing forty children between the ages of 6 and 10 has gone off the road in the French municipality of Corps and plunged meters down. There were six adults on the bus.
According to French media, 21 people were injured in the accident. It concerns eighteen children and three adults, two of whom have been taken to hospital in a very critical condition.
The occupants were returning from a skiing holiday in the French Alps when they went off the road about 40 kilometers south of Grenoble.
According to local authorities, ninety firefighters have been sent to the scene. It is not yet clear how the accident happened.
The children and their supervisors originally come from the town of Sceaux, just south of Paris. The mayor of the town, Philippe Laurent, tells the French newspaper Le Parisien that “everything is less serious than they initially expected”. According to Laurent, the bus driver became unwell and drove straight on in a curve.
