Elements of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard seized more than 40,000 doses of alleged cocaine as well as a case of 30 long weapons in the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado in Sonora.

The uniformed officers received information about a property located in the Residencias neighborhood in the aforementioned municipality, where illegal activities were apparently carried out. It should be noted that the actions of the National Guard and the Sedena were carried out in coordination with the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), as reported by the Army in a statement shared on Thursday, March 2.
“By increasing the recognition in said neighborhood, they located an address with the characteristics of which they were already aware, for which the personnel of the Mexican Army and National Guard established a security perimeter, which allowed the members of the FGR to fill out a technical order of investigation ”, detailed the Sedena.

In total, 40,400 doses of alleged cocaine were seized, weighing approximately 20.8 kilograms, 27 long weapons, a vehicle, the property itself, as well as more than 3,000 cartridges and 91,000 chargers were also seized at the scene.

The authorities reported that the confiscation of the material occurred as a result of intelligence work and inter-institutional coordination with the aim of preventing crimes. They also indicated that the material was made available to the Public Ministry so that investigations can be carried out and the quantity and type of drug can be confirmed, which was found on Monday, February 27. However, the findings were reported three days later.
Also on Thursday, March 2, two people were killed in a shooting near the facilities of the Center for Industrial Technological and Services High School (CBTIS 37) in Cajeme, Sonora.
Initial reports indicated that two people died as a result of the shots.
In view of the violent events, the entity’s Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) confirmed the deaths, likewise reported that it was a direct attack and said that, despite the proximity to the educational center, there were no students injured. In addition, they indicated that drugs were found in the unit where the aggressors were traveling, without specifying the type or quantity of the drug. Elements of the State Police came to the scene to provide support and an investigation was launched.

Videos were shared on social networks in which the intense detonations could be heard and the students could be seen taking shelter from the shots. In one of the recordings, students could be seen running through a patio. While in another video a group of young people had to withdraw on the floor before the shots.
Likewise, a photo of a red vehicle with various bullet holes and smashed windows circulated on social networks and according to local media, the bodies of the people who died would have remained in said car.

Also in Sonora, members of the National Guard were captured allegedly inhaling cocaine. The security institution, headed by Luis Rodríguez Bucio, began an investigation to clarify the facts. The national guards were identified and a toxicological test will be applied to confirm the type of substance they would have consumed.
“The Internal Affairs Unit began an investigation, identifying those involved, to whom the corresponding toxicological evaluations will be applied, in order to implement the corresponding legal and administrative procedures,” the National Guard detailed in an official statement.
Similarly, the National Guard said that these types of acts are reprehensible and that those involved will be punished according to law. It should be noted that the institution did not confirm that its members had used a drug.
