PEC Zwolle suffered a remarkable defeat in the Kitchen Champion Division on Monday. The leader headed for a victory at MVV Maastricht, but went down in the final phase: 3-2. Jong PSV drew 3-3 against Jong AZ.
For a long time there was nothing wrong for PEC. MVV had no answer to the leader’s game in the early stages of the match and fell behind after thirteen minutes of play. PEC midfielder Haris Medunjanin was allowed to lash out at the penalty spot and shot convincingly in the bottom left corner.
Less than two minutes later, Younes Taha aimed for the same corner and made it 2-0 from the edge of the penalty area. It was Taha’s tenth goal of the season.
In the 26th minute, MVV came back into the game against the odds. On a pass from Sven Blummel, Orhan Dzepar was able to slide in from close range. That connection goal heralded the beginning of the turnaround: Koen Kostons broke through the Zwolle defense ten minutes before the end and scored the equalizer.
PEC then went on the hunt for the winning goal, but it was MVV that took the win. In stoppage time, Rayan El Azrak shot in after fumbling in the back of the visitors, who suffered the second loss in a row as a result. Recently, ADO Den Haag (3-1) was also lost.
Coach Dick Schreuder’s team still has three points more than Heracles Almelo as leader and eleven more than number three Almere City. The top two teams are promoted directly to the Eredivisie.

Jason van Duiven made the equalizer on behalf of Young PSV half an hour before the end, but the people of Eindhoven were not satisfied with that. AZ goalkeeper Verhulst kept his team alive for a long time, but could not prevent a goal from Mohamed Nassoh. AZ midfielder Damienus Reverson determined the final score three minutes before the end: 3-3.
