The prosecutor paid by the KNVB does not accept the dismissal of the red card of NEC defender Philippe Sandler in the cup match against Feyenoord on February 8. The body has appealed against the acquittal, the disciplinary committee confirmed to NU.nl on Sunday after reporting by de Gelderlander.
Sandler was sent off one minute before the end by referee Rob Dieperink for taking a shot off the goal line with his arm. NEC then led 0-2 in De Kuip. Feyenoord used the penalty kick and made it 2-2 in injury time. After a spectacle in extra time (4-4), Feyenoord won on penalties.
The professional football prosecutor wanted to suspend Sandler for one game. NEC appealed against the settlement proposal and was proved right by the disciplinary committee two weeks ago, which found the handball not punishable and brushed the suspension off the table.
Because the prosecutor is now appealing against the acquittal, a session will follow on Tuesday at the federal office in Zeist. Then it will become clear whether the 26-year-old Sandler will still be suspended and for how many games.
With Sandler, NEC has recently found its way up after a bad period. The team of coach Rogier Meijer won 3-0 against FC Volendam on Saturday and therefore rose to ninth place in the Eredivisie.
The deficit in eighth place, which at the end of the season will probably entitle you to participate in the play-offs for European football and is now in the hands of revelation RKC Waalwijk, is two points.
