“This story arises from certain conversations around feminism and the need that arises for us to make this concept more complex. Both I, as the director of the project, and the writers with whom we wrote it, believe and value this historic moment that we are experiencing in relation to women’s rights. Why not tell a story that follows the same path, but is traversed at one point by a woman and then by a man? What things change in relation to the particularity of each genre? What things make us equal? How is the outside, the gaze of others, put into play?”, contextualized Celina Murga about the questions that led her to face this project.

“The film arises from the need to rethink ourselves in relation to the links and in relation to what is expected of each gender based on the roles of father, mother, partner. And this led us to wonder about the idea of family and marriage”, added the Argentine director nominated for the Berlin Golden Bear, who in 2012 was selected by Martín Scorsese to be part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, spending a year working and learning under the tutelage of the renowned American director. “The way we found to tell this idea proposes a very particular structure that, in some way, conditions and provokes certain ideas of staging. This structure is proposed as a mirror, where two very similar stories follow one another: one will be led by Natalia, the other by Pablo. In a way, one is the opposite of the other. The stories will be very similar, but there will be clear situations and actions that will give variations to the conflicts raised. The objective of these variations is to invite the viewer to reflect or at least to ask themselves questions about gender issues”, explained Celina Murga about the script that was prepared together with Juan Villegas and Lucía Osorio and that had the collaboration of Gabriela Larralde.
The film, which will be shot on location in Buenos Aires and Montevideo, is an international co-production between Mostra Cine, Tresmilmundos Cine (Argentina), Infinity Hill, producer of the recent Oscar nominee and Golden Globe Award winner, Argentina, 1985 (USA), Weydemann Bros (Germany), Barraca Producciones, Dopamine (Mexico) and Nadador Cine (Uruguay). International sales are handled by Paulette Bensussen (TDO Media).
“The interesting thing about the script for me is that it shows the work that the patriarchal society does on people in a very little obvious way, but that it is, and it seemed very lucid to me how this network is intertwined between the two characters, the female and the male. masculine”, highlighted Joaquín Furriel.

Like the journey, the moment in Natalia’s life, what is happening to her in relation to her marriage, what happens to her with the other character, are themes that she undoubtedly wanted to investigate ”, expressed De Tavira.

“I was also attracted by the tone in which it is written, which is like life itself, its everydayness and at the same time its depth. I have seen all of Celina’s films and what struck me the most was her naturalistic register, quasi-documentary where actors who look like real life people are mixed, ”she added.
Regarding her debut in Argentine cinema, she acknowledged that she was “very excited to come” to record “because I know that she has a whole world of love for the theater, all that effervescence of interesting fiction, of great directors and directors, I am very happy .
