Another day of chaos in the City of Buenos Aires: piqueteros cut the 9 de Julio highway

Members of the Picket Unit cut off the intersection of 9 de Julio and Corrientes avenues starting at 10 in the morning, in protest of the 160,000 casualties in the Empower Work program, and partially affect traffic in the Obelisk area.

The mobilizations against this government measure, executed by the Minister of Social Development, Victoria Tolosa Paz, are also replicated in the main cities of the country with assemblies where the next actions will be decided if the situation is not reversed.

In Córdoba Capital -in Plaza Vélez Sarsfield- is the leader of the Polo Obrero, Eduardo Belliboni, who was harshly accused by the Minister.

“Picketing and extortion is not the consideration for Empowering Work,” challenged the minister. “Taking boys and girls, four-year-old boys and babies with their mothers to camp on July 9 is not either,” the official redoubled the criticism and stated: “Belliboni and the Piquetera Unit were very accustomed in the previous government to to be able to bend the wrist of whoever was sitting in front of the ministry. It is money that comes from the payment of taxes from all Argentines who ask us to be responsible.

Belliboni told Infobae that the proposals to fight against the adjustment measures in the social plans that arise in the assemblies will be debated and voted on in the National Piquetero Plenary that will take place on March 3 in Plaza de Mayo and in front of the Casa Pink.

Before noon, the Piquetera Unit is scheduled to hold a press conference at the Buenos Aires Obelisk, for which a total cut is planned in those strategic avenues.

During the act, the concentration of the 3,000 piquetero delegates who will disembark in Plaza de Mayo for the debate on the “new plan of struggle” will be announced.

The organizations of the Piquetero Unit assure that they validated almost all of those who are organized in the more than 35 organizations that form part of it. “But there are cases in our own spaces that have had enormous difficulties due to the complexity of the system, a virtual system that even asked for a face validation that is not easy to carry out, and that did not provide proof of the procedure carried out. There are tens of thousands of workers who are not organized or who live in areas without internet or without electricity, the minister knows this and has not made the decision to reach them, ”she explained.

The last “camp for an indefinite period” that the Piquetero Unit carried out on Avenida 9 de Julio, in front of the historic building with the image of Evita, lasted only 20 hours. And it was by decision of the leadership and not by action of the City Police or a court order to clear public space.

The picketers know that those around Tolosa Paz interpreted the dismantling of the tents in that period as a triumph for the head of the social ministry, who until now has never closed the doors to dialogue. In fact, the second and third lines of her listened to the demands and promised solutions.
