Union Berlin did not get further than a goalless draw against Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Germany’s number two also played a 0-0 draw against Ajax in the intermediate round of the Europa League on Thursday. Donyell Malen helped Borussia Dortmund to a 4-1 win over Hertha BSC.

Union Berlin had the most possession and the most chances, but was unable to convert the slight advantage into goals. Defender Danilho Doekhi had a base place for the home team. Top scorer Sheraldo Becker came in as a substitute.

Due to the draw, Union Berlin forgets to take over the lead in Germany from Bayern Munich. The German superpower lost on Saturday with basic players Daley Blind and Ryan Gravenberch 3-2 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Malen makes the first goal since July

Malen finally scored again for Dortmund later in the day. In the Bundesliga game, the attacker made it 2-0 after half an hour. After good preparatory work by Marco Reus and Julian Brandt, the ball ended up at the feet of Malen via Karim Adeyemi, who shot in at the far post.

Malen’s last goal dated from July 2022. The 24-year-old attacker was injured in August and was out for a few weeks. Malen was no longer sure of a starting place after his injury. On Sunday, the attacker was allowed to start again in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund’s other goals came from Adeyemi, Reus and Brandt. Via Lucas Tousart, Hertha did something in return, but this was not enough. Single international Jean-Paul Boëtius came within the lines at Hertha after 68 minutes.
