The Dutch woman who was arrested prior to the Miss Belgium pageant last weekend has been released, reports the federal prosecutor of Belgium. She was arrested together with Peter C., who is suspected of wanting to commit a terrorist murder.
The woman is not suspected of involvement in the terror plans that the man would have planned. C. will appear in court later this week. The woman was said to be a friend of his.
The Dutchman was in the car with 46-year-old C. when he was arrested on Saturday evening. C. had bought tickets for the two of them for the beauty contest in Plopsaland amusement park in the seaside resort of De Panne.
The man, who comes from Lommel in Flanders, had a loaded gun with him. Another weapon was found in his car, along with a bulletproof vest. The suspect was not known to the police or the security services and there is still nothing clear about a motive.
