Eugenio Derbez is once again in the public eye, as the artist was singled out for apparently supporting a bill that could attack trans childhoods. Regarding this, Láurel Miranda, a specialist in gender perspective and human rights, explained the importance of not minimizing reactions on social networks, especially if they come from such a relevant figure as the actor.
Activist pointed out Eugenio Derbez for “liking” a proposal that would threaten trans childhoods
Human rights experts explained on social networks why the initiative could be discriminatory against children
It all began on February 9, 2023, when the PAN deputy, América Rangel, unveiled a proposal that prohibits “minors from undergoing gender change treatments and surgeries” and also seeks to “Those who perform these procedures on minors shall be punished with jail.”
Today I presented a bill to prohibit minors from undergoing gender change treatments and surgeries and punish anyone who performs these procedures on minors with jail.

In this sense, Eugenio Derbez used his Twitter account to like some of the publications made by the official, which was rescued by the activist Láurel Miranda, who publicly confronted the artist for these events.
LGBT+ community canceled Manelyk González after strong transphobic comments: “They are in fashion”
The former member of “Acapulco Shore” and her makeup artist, Víctor Guadarrama, took down the controversial video, assuring that her words only “misinformed and stigmatized”
“@EugenioDerbez liking @AmerangelLorenz in everything related to his proposal that seeks to affect trans childhoods is… the cherry on the cake. Pair of hateful I already want to see what the Hollywood studios think about their anti-rights stance, ”he wrote.
The punctuation of the also journalist generated all kinds of reactions, because although some people agreed with her position; Other Internet users – including América Rangel – made offensive comments.
Manelyk and Vico have already offered an apology for having made transphobic comments
The makeup artist and the former Acapulco Shore were involved in criticism, as they alluded to part of the LGBT+ community
“Hahahahahaha this person wants Hollywood to cancel @EugenioDerbez for liking a tweet. The great Eugenio must be trembling with fear, ”wrote the PAN deputy.

Láurel Miranda -who recently confronted Manelyk González and Vico Guadarrama for making transphobic comments during a podcast- spoke exclusively with Infobae México to explain why it is essential not to let reactions like the one the actor would have from No returns accepted.
“It seems to me that as public figures and more than the reach of someone like Eugenio Derbez, the support that is shown for certain positions is more than important. In this sense, what is questionable is that Derbez expresses support for an anti-rights and transphobic initiative in reference to CDMX when this clearly indicates that he is unaware of the issue, especially when he is a person who does not reside in Mexico City,” he pointed out.
Likewise, regarding Rangel’s comment where he mocked a possible “cancellation” towards the artist, the activist asserted that his pointing towards the famous person who starred in La Familia P.Luche was not going in that direction.

“There is no call for a cancellation and even less a cancellation of the caliber of Eugenio Derbez that would be impossible, we have seen that other figures in Hollywood have been temporarily out of work and then return to the stage. In this case, it is simply paradoxical that Eugenio Derbez works with Hollywood studios that demonstrate in favor of human rights and that at the end of the day he is a person who is clearly expressing his support for anti-rights laws, that is what is worrying,” he commented. .
Since the PAN deputy spoke about the proposal she made, both activists, people from the LGBT+ community, human rights specialists and institutions such as Diversidad CDMX, belonging to the Secretariat of Social Inclusion and Well-being of the Mexican capital, expressed their concern about it.
“Deputy América Rangel is lately known not so much for her legislative work but for her media scandals against populations of vulnerable groups, call it the LGBT+ or racialized population, as we could see when she simply expressed her support for the restaurant chain of the Sonora Grill despite the signs of racism that were occurring within its facilities”, the UNAM academic began to say”, Láurel Miranda pointed out for this medium.

Likewise, the journalist commented that the initiative presented by Rangel in the Congress of Mexico City to prohibit hormonal treatments and surgical interventions in trans minors would have a very particular background.
“In Mexico City, the Gender Identity Law does not contemplate childhood, it only contemplates adolescents, that is, thirteen years and older, for which reason this speech by América Rangel called ‘Not with children’ is much more a political discourse than a clear and concise position”, he rescued and added:
“She knows perfectly well that her speech will bring her the sympathy of a large sector of society that is unaware of the subject and that is transphobic due to lack of education. She knows that she can capitalize on it in a convenient way for her career and, on the other hand, she needs to score, and this is not only for her, but also for those like Eugenio Derbez and many more people who are supporting her: a gender transition is not synonymous with hormonal treatments and surgical procedures”.
According to Láurel, the transition is “solely and exclusively” for the person who performs it, so -according to the expert- continuing with these disinformation discourses and initiatives could lead to a serious delay in terms of human rights for these populations. .

”When we talk about gender identity laws we are talking about the possibility of correcting identity data in official documents: name or sex and gender. That is the only thing that is contemplated. The alarm is for two reasons: one, because despite the fact that they are not going to be carried out, what América Rangel is doing is spreading a series of false information and prejudices that contribute to society continuing to stigmatize and violate the transgender population and number two: for those trans teens over the age of 13 who do have the support of their family to perform not surgeries, but hormonal treatments that allow them to have a much more comfortable transition, they would be prevented by this initiative,” he argued.
Finally, Miranda launched a forceful reflection on Rangel’s initiative and on the positions in favor of his proposal:
“Let’s remember that all the PAN members and the conservative sector of society point out that: ‘Don’t mess with my children.’ So why do they want to mess with the children of those families that do want to support these minors in their transition process? It is really hypocritical,” he concluded.
