PSV coach Ruud van Nistelrooij is impressed by newcomer Thorgan Hazard. The winger, who recently came over from Borussia Dortmund on a rental basis, has been important for PSV in his two raids with an assist and a goal.
“Thorgan could start, although the question is whether he can play an entire match,” Van Nistelrooij replied at a press conference on Friday when he was asked about Hazard’s fitness.
“These are very good signs that there is an immediate return on his part. His first ball contact against Feyenoord was a goal. He came in against Emmen and prepared a ball for Luuk de Jong, who then shot it in. Yes, that’s nice. Those are wonderful signals that a player is quickly used to and feels good in the group.”
The 29-year-old Hazard made his debut for PSV in De Kuip against Feyenoord (2-2) with his first ball contact for the 0-2. In the cup match with FC Emmen (3-1 win) on Wednesday, he was again important for the team from Eindhoven with an assist.
‘Three points against Groningen are a must’
Patrick van Aanholt, one of the other newcomers at PSV, also makes a good impression on Van Nistelrooij. “He seems to walk our game without any adjustments. Whether he needs to come on the inside, high or on the side, he fills it in great and does it naturally. And the same goes for Thorgan. He’s also a player who picks it up quickly.”
PSV will take on FC Groningen on Saturday, the number seventeen in the Eredivisie. In October, the Brabant team surprisingly lost 4-2 at the ‘Trots van het Noorden’. “A lot has changed since then, both with them and with us. We are now in an interesting phase of the season and are still competing on three fronts, as I wanted. Three points are a must for us tomorrow,” said Van Nistelrooy.
PSV-FC Groningen starts on Saturday at 8 p.m. The match in the Philips Stadium is led by referee Dennis Higler.
