PSV starts Wednesday with basic debutant Patrick van Aanholt in the home match against FC Emmen in the eighth finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup. Olivier Boscagli is back in the selection of the Eindhoven team after an absence of ten months.
Van Aanholt takes the place of Phillipp Mwene at left back. The nineteen-time Orange international replaced the Austrian against Feyenoord (2-2) in the first half and thus made his debut for PSV.
Mwene had to leave the field on a stretcher after half an hour on Sunday. It later emerged that the defender had suffered a concussion.
PSV also has to compete against FC Emmen without Anwar El Ghazi and Armando Obispo. El Ghazi fell out early against Feyenoord due to a muscle injury and cannot take action in the coming weeks. Johan Bakayoko replaces him on the right flank on Wednesday.
Obispo is serving a suspension against Emmen because of his red card against Feyenoord. His place in defense is taken by André Ramalho.
Boscagli back in selection after ten months
Compared to the line-up against Feyenoord, PSV coach Ruud van Nistelrooij is making another change in his line-up. Joël Drommel defends the Eindhoven team’s goal instead of Walter Benítez. Van Nistelrooij announced last month that Drommel is first choice in the KNVB Cup.
The coach can also have Boscagli again. The French defender was out of circulation for ten months due to a knee injury and will start on the bench against FC Emmen.
There, Boscagli will be joined by Thorgan Hazard, among others. The Belgian midfielder, who came over from Borussia Dortmund on a rental basis last transfer period, also sat on the bench against Feyenoord and then came in after an hour of play.
The match between PSV and FC Emmen in the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup starts on Wednesday at 6.45 pm. The duel in the Philips Stadium is led by referee Ingmar Oostrom.
