Following Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant also leaves Brooklyn Nets, major media such as ESPN and The Athletic report Thursday. The NBA star will continue his career with the ambitious Phoenix Suns.
It seems only a matter of time before the Nets confirm Durant’s arrival. The thirteen-time All-Star has played for the Nets since 2019. He previously played for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors in the NBA.
This week, Irving also pulled the door behind him on the Nets. The much-discussed American – he made the news in recent months by not getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and referring to an anti-Semitic documentary on social media – signed with the Dallas Mavericks.
According to ESPN and The Athletic, TJ Warren is making the same switch as Durant. Brooklyn Nets, where Durant joins star players Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, will receive three players in return, among others.
New Suns owner is ambitious
The 34-year-old Durant is currently sidelined with a knee injury and will almost certainly miss the All-Star Game. He has averaged nearly 30 points per game for the Nets this season.
His arrival at the Suns signifies the ambitions of brand new owner Mat Ishbia, who has title aspirations with the club. The Phoenix Suns reached the NBA Finals three times (1976, 1993 and 2021), but have never won the championship.
The Suns are currently fifth in the Western Conference. The Nets occupy the same position in the Eastern Conference.
