Vladimir Cerrón is sentenced to four years in effective prison for collusion in the ‘Wanka Aerodrome’ case

The Judiciary issued this Tuesday, in the first instance, four years in effective prison against Vladimir Cerrón, leader of Peru Libre, after finding him responsible for collusion and other crimes against the State for the “Wanka Aerodrome” case, which was planned to be built in Orcotuna (Junín), despite the fact that the Executive rejected it on up to two occasions.

The sentence was issued by Judge Guido Arroyo, of the Sixth Supraprovincial Unipersonal Criminal Court Specialized in Corruption, who specified that the sentence must be ratified in a higher court.

In other words, Vladimir Cerrón was already aware of this before the contract was signed,” said Canchanya.

The former vice minister of territorial governance asked President Dina Boluarte that there can be no dialogue without having established responsibilities for the more than 50 deaths during the protests.

However, the legal defense then responded that there was no “proof of an act of concertation, that the act of collusion does not exist” and that “it was part of his performance as governor.”

Cerrón, founder of the political organization that led Pedro Castillo to the presidency, was governor of Junín from 2011 to 2014. In 2019 he would return to office, but seven months later he was suspended to serve a court sentence for corruption.

In 2015, former congressman Jesús Hurtado Zamudio (Popular Force), member of the Transportation Commission, warned that the ‘Wanka Aerodrome’ contract infringed Peru’s Civil Aeronautics Law (No. 27261) and two others.

“The management [de Cerrón] intended to deceive the region by granting all the budgetary responsibility of its aerodrome to a private party, ignoring that, according to Supreme Decree No. 050-2001, all aerodromes are public even if they are state, regional, municipal or private property. With this we conclude that there would be responsibilities to assume, including economic ones”, Zamudio mentioned that year.

He described that the politician had “a clearly re-election desire”, since “he promised that the project would go through three stages (aerodrome – national airport – international airport), although “it was not even managed for the first stage.”

“It should be noted that the last two would have been the exclusive responsibility of the MTC, according to Law No. 27261,” the former parliamentarian added. The existence of evidence that led to the recent sentence against Cerrón is also expressed in report No. 130-2015-CG of the Comptroller General of the Republic.
