Erik ten Hag is struggling with personnel problems in the run-up to Manchester United’s diptych with Leeds United in the Premier League. Antony is also not available on Wednesday when ‘The Red Devils’ play against the low flyer for the first time at Old Trafford.
22-year-old Antony was injured in the away match against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Manchester United write in a statement that Jeffrey Schlupp is “most likely” responsible for the Brazilian’s injury, which was pushed against the billboards by the Palace midfielder.
After that foul, a brawl ensued, with midfielder Casemiro grabbing his opponent Will Hughes by the throat and getting red. The Brazilian, one of United’s most important players this season, has to watch three games as a result.
It is not clear how long Antony will be sidelined. Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay will also miss the home game against Leeds United (kick-off at 9 p.m.). Midfielders Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen are not available for a long time due to injuries.
Manchester United play Leeds United twice in the Premier League in four days. Next week, Ten Hag’s team will face Frenkie de Jong’s FC Barcelona for the first time in the intermediate round of the Europa League.
At the moment, United are on track to secure a Champions League ticket for next season. The twenty-time champion of England is third, eight points behind leaders Arsenal. ‘The Gunners’ have played one game less. The top four may enter the ball of millions next season.
