Much-discussed NBA star Irving completes switch to Dallas Mavericks | Sports Other

Basketball player Kyrie Irving has completed his move from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks. The American was not undisputed in Brooklyn: he refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and was discredited last fall after a reference on social media to an anti-Semitic documentary.

Irving’s move to the Mavericks had been up in the air for some time. The Texas club confirmed his arrival and that of his teammate Markieff Morris on social media on Tuesday. Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith go the other way and play for the Brooklyn Nets.

Thirty-year-old Irving has also been linked with Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers. The guard reportedly wanted to leave the Brooklyn Nets because negotiations about a longer stay had stalled.

Irving won the NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. He spent the past four seasons playing for the Nets, where he was a key player. This season, Irving averaged 27.1 points per game.

Relations with the club deteriorated last year. After his refusal to be vaccinated, he was not allowed to play for several months. This was partly because New York did not allow unvaccinated people to exercise indoors.

Promoting a controversial anti-Semitic documentary led to widespread criticism and an eight-match suspension.
